Yesterday we finished our first Kids in the Know lesson. The students identified safe adults in their lives that they could talk to if they were feeling scared, sad or uncomfortable. They brought home their drawings of the safe adults in their lives. Please look for these in their bags. It is a good opportunity for a follow up conversation at home about the safe adults in your child's life. Today, during our second lesson, we identified unsafe scenarios, and practised the response, "If asked to go and your parents don't know, shout no!"
The students also brought home one final project that we are squeezing in before the end of the year - you can thank me later ;) I have asked the students to complete a personal timeline. You will find the directions in their bag.
Wait, there is more! The students also brought home a sheet showing four of the personal strategies we have been exploring in addition. Please have your child explain what they are working on.
Finally you will find the teams for Sports day, along with the team colours. Please do not panic if your child does not own clothing of that colour. I will bring my face paint and we can do a quick, simple drawing (smiley face?) on their cheeks if they would like.

Our class will visit the Young Entrepreneur Show which will take place next Wednesday. Mrs. Gore, Mr. Rogers and Mr. Knox's classes are participating in this program. These students have created and produced a product to sell at the show. All products will be in the $0.50 to $5.00 range, with most being around $2.00. A minimum of 10% of all profits will go to charity. Examples of this year's products include keychains, duct tape wallets, magnets, hair accessories, slime, bath bombs, lip balm, homemade erasers, bracelets, etc. There are classified ads posted around the school. These students have put a lot of time and effort into creating their products, along with full business plans.

Please keep an eye out for a couple of important papers that have come home. School supply orders for next year came home last week. Orders are due May 18. This order form is an easy way to organize the purchasing of all of the needed supplies for your child for next year and a great way to check an item off your to do list in the fall when schedules are so busy. The items will be delivered to the school and ready for your child in September. There is also a blue Surrey Children's Festival form and a purple or white permission slip for a field trip to Langley Cheer and Athletic to attend a parkour training session, which should be a lot of fun! Thank you in advance to those of you who are able to drive and supervise on our upcoming field trips.
As many of you have noticed, there is hot lunch on the same day as our field trip to the Children's Festival on May 27. Mme Foulds has contacted our amazing hot lunch organizers about the conflict and they are currently looking at our options. As soon as I have more information I will share it with you.
Finally, please help us with the Inspire project. Vote daily through this link: http://learningproject.cst.org/ideas/1033

Thank you again to our parent drivers who made today's trip to the Township of Langley possible. It was a great morning! The students took part in a mock council meeting, with eight of our students acting as the councillors. We also briefly experienced what teachers were like in 1924. During this session, Jaden was a very brave soul who impressed us all with his courage; you are amazing, Jaden! We learned about safety, discussed green choices and talked about emergency services.

What an amazing day we had yesterday at Grouse Mountain! A HUGE thank you to all the parents who joined us yesterday and drove and helped supervise the students. They had so much fun and the trip would not have been possible without your help and support.
Also,we were treated to a wonderful performance this afternoon by the Foothills Brass Quintet, from Calgary. They played some wonderful pieces, including theme songs from Star Wars and Harry Potter.

We were so spoiled last week! Thank you so much for feeding us amazing meals all week long! You are so kind and generous!
Student-led conferences are coming up next week. Please be sure to sing up for a spot. If the time you would like is full, please let me know and I will fit you in. These conferences generally take 20 - 30 minutes.

We had a wonderful time celebrating Valentine's day on Friday. A big thank you to everyone for all of the cards, treats and gifts that I received. You spoiled me! Also, thank you to Ben, Tessa and Arianna's families for providing treats for the class!
Below you will find photos of us figuring out which liquid is the fastest. Good times!

A big thank you to all of you who are able to volunteer to drive and supervise on our upcoming trip to Grouse Mountain. I have drawn names for the free supervising parents. Our lucky winners are:
Kathy Bai
Travis Thom
Beverly Drummond
Eric Lapp
Nicole Rogers
All other parents who would like to join us on the mountain will receive a complimentary general admission ticket which allows you to join us on the mountain, but not participate in the program with us. If you would like to participate, you are asked to pay $22.40 for admission; please give it to me by Tuesday, February 23 as that is when Grouse Mountain needs our final numbers. We have also been told that siblings are not allowed to participate in the program.
Mrs. Bell, Mr. Bodnaruk, Mrs. McCarthy, Mr. Roessler and Mr. Waller are the other parents who have offered to drive. We currently have one more car then we need driving to the mountain, so if you have offered to drive, but would rather not, please speak with me. We do have enough complimentary parking passes for all 10 parents who have offered to drive.
On another note, please be sure to look for a blue Math handout that came home today. In it you will find games to help support your child's learning at home.
Finally, please be sure to continue to check your child's head for lice.

We are approaching the one hundredth day of school and will be participating in several activities based on "100". Would you please help your child collect 100 items to bring to school by Monday February 15? It would be preferable if all of the objects are inexpensive, the same, and relatively small. They could be brought to school in a small zip lock bag, or tupperware container. Please label the container with your child's name. Some possible ideas for collections include: pasta, cereal, shells, toothpicks, paper clips or dry beans.

We unexpectedly had the opportunity to hear author Michael Wade speak this morning. The children enjoyed hearing his stories. You may want to ask your child about unbreakable toilet paper!

I came back to this snowman on the board the other day after lunch; I love my job!
We have had the chance to try some new activities in the gym lately. Last week we got to try lacrosse and today we got to try dribbling while in a wheel chair - not an easy task!

The students were fabulous last night! Nothing gets me in the mood for Christmas more than hearing children sing (even if it is about bugs) ;)
If you have any jars, would you please send them to school? I am hoping that everyone will bring a jam sized jar to school by Tuesday. If you have extras, please send those as well. We do not need lids, but will gladly take them.
Also, while I have your attention, I wanted to thank everyone who is able to drive to Extreme Air Park. There are currently spots for 42 students (we have 24), so if you would rather not drive after all, please let me know. Parents who are interested can pay $17.75 and join us in jumping. It turns out we won't be able to reuse socks, so the PAC will purchase new socks for everyone. I strongly suggest that everyone bring their water bottle on Friday.
Finally, please join me in welcoming Selina, who will join our class on Monday. Selina has moved from Coquitlam. Welcome Selina!

How can it be December tomorrow? Time is flying by in our classroom! This Thursday is the primary choir performance, and next Wednesday is our primary concert. The concert is named A Bugz Christmas, and our class will be termites. We will be singing a hip hop song. So, what do hip hoping termites wear, you wonder? A fine question! We suggest that the children wear earth toned clothing (beige, brown, black and white), with accessories. Perhaps a ball cap turned backwards, or gold chains? Let your imagination guide you!

Welcome to our class website! Please bear with me as I navigate this for my first time.
Last week we had our Remembrance Day assembly. The students were incredible! They were quiet, attentive and respectful throughout the assembly. They should be very proud!
